Lined with flowers, plants, and marble statues.
Founded in 1704 by order of Peter the Great (1672 – 1725), the lovely Summer Garden is located in Saint Petersburg, beside the Field of Mars and St. Michael’s Castle. One of the most romantic places in Saint Petersburg, it was a traditional location for nobility, and is still enjoyed by locals and visitors today. Home to many rare plants and flowers, hundreds of allegorical marble sculptures also line the walkways of the garden. Another major attraction here are the garden’s fountains, which are amongst the oldest in Russia. The Summer Garden is also the location of Peter the Great’s first Summer Palace. This two-story Dutch-style building is one of Saint Petersburg’s first stone palaces, and its interiors are well-preserved till this day.
