Straumen Gård

Visit the quaint farmhouses that paint a picture of Norwegian farming life in the 19th century.

An authentic and perfectly preserved farm dating back to the 19th century, Straumen Gård is an idyllic getaway for a peaceful stroll amidst one of Norway’s greatest cultural treasures.

Straumen Gård was built in the middle of the 19th century and for 100 years, it was a thriving farming complex strategically situated such that it had access to both land and sea resources. As farming declined in Norway during the 20th century, the farm was finally sold in 1960 to the Troms Folk Museum, and has been open to the public ever since for the greater purpose of educating them and preserving this piece of history. Today, visitors can picnic on its lush green fields and admire the quaint houses with grass-covered roofs. The complex still contains all of its farming implements and tools, looking exactly as it did when the houses were still filled with life.

Come if you are keen to experience a historically enriching day but at a laidback pace!
