Statue of Giordano Bruno

A tribute to Giordano Bruno, who was burnt at the stake for heresy in 1600.

Intricately sculpted by the master Ettore Ferrari, who also created the gorgeous Grande Oriente d'Italia, the statue of Giordano Bruno was erected at Campo de' Fiori in Rome in 1889. The Freemasons were the ones who decided to create a statue to pay tribute to Bruno, who was burnt at the stake for heresy on 17 February 1600. Till this day, visitors including the masons, atheists, pantheists and even a representative of Rome's mayoralty place a wreath at his feet on the anniversary of his tragic death. Look out for the inscription on the basement: A BRUNO - IL SECOLO DA LUI DIVINATO - QUI DOVE IL ROGO ARSE which is translated into: To Bruno - From the Age he Predicted - Here Where the Fire Burned.
