Stahl House

This home has plenty of heart.

Despite its relative youth and modern look, the Stahl House has already been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In a short number of years, it’s gained international recognition as an iconic representation of modern architecture in 20th century Los Angeles, and has been lovingly immortalized in various television shows, films and music videos. Constructed largely from glass and steel, it boasts a breathtaking panoramic view of the Los Angeles cityscape. This view was made famous by a Julius Shuman photograph of two women reclining in a corner of the house, admiring an evening view of the glittering city spread out before them via floor-to-ceiling glass windows. The lavish swimming pool sits on the edge of the hill, with no barriers between you and the world beyond. What’s remarkable is that this house did not belong to some immensely rich man, but was conceived by the dreams of a regular man. Buck Stahl and his wife created their house of dreams by sheer perseverance, with Stahl even collecting his own broken concrete to carry out renovations. Today, the result of their American dream is a gorgeous home that you can visit and admire.
