St Phillip’s Cathedral

Though Birmingham is Britain’s second largest modernised city, don't let its modernised facade deceive you. Deeply nestled within Birmingham folds the star of the Bishop of London— the St Phillip’s Cathedral. The neoclassical styled architecture was constructed on the 4 October 1715. Designed by Thomas Archer, this elegant building includes detailed baroque design of dome, giant pilasters, rusticated stonework, colossal-sized pilasters and decorative urns with supporting balusters.


One of the unique feature of the Cathedral Church is the magnificent four stained-glass windows with tinted petals of light filtering it through it, reflecting its scarlet red, azure blue and emerald greens. Interestingly, at a closer look, you will realise that it depicts heaven and earth comprising of the Ascension, the Nativity, Crucifixion and Last Judgement.
