Situated right where the very first public Christian service in Melbourne was held.
Situated opposite the bustling Flinder Street Station and right where the very first public Christian service in the country was held in 1835, is St Paul’s Cathedral. Designed by William Butterfield, its architecture takes on a Gothic transitional style, which combines Early English and Decorated Gothic. The cathedral features a charming sandstone exterior as well as beautiful patterned floor tiles and dado (wall tiles) on the inside. Such a stately building with spires reaching for the skies, it seems as though the heavens would really be able to hear our prayers. What comfort it offers, allowing an escape from the not-to-distant, chaotic Flinder's street station. If you consider yourself a history buff or a spiritual seeker, this is a msut-see place for you while at Melbourne.
