St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge

Catch eagles, Monarch Butterflies and other magnificent migratory birds at St. Mark’s National Wildlife Refuge.

Tens of thousands of acres of unspoiled protected natural habitats and ecosystems, a multitude of wondrous wildlife and peaceful hiking trails filled with amazing views – all this and much more lie in store for visitors to St. Mark’s National Wildlife Refuge. As the name suggests, it’s a refuge for all kinds of animals, especially migratory birds who never fail to stop over for a little while and rest their wings before continuing their journeys.

Nature and wildlife lovers flock to St. Mark’s National Wildlife Refuge for the rare chance to spot endangered species, like the Whooping Cranes who call the refuge home for the winter. In spring, you’ll get to see the tender and nurturing side of the magnificent eagles and osprey, when they start nesting and caring for their young. Other animals you can look out for include gorgeous Monarch Butterflies who pass by during their migration to Mexico, bobcats, otters and black bears.
