Sri Gethuk Waterfall

A hidden waterfall.

Situated in Bleberan village, the Sri Gethuk Waterfall is tucked within the narrow and deep karst valleys of the Gunungkidul regency in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The powerful cascade of water can be accessed on foot via a steep hike or via a wooden raft boat ride that takes visitors down the meandering Oya river to the waterfall itself.

Approaching Sri Gethuk, visitors are welcomed by the cooling spray of the falls, as well as the thunderous roar of the cascade of water flowing down the limestone rock formations. According to local legend, the current moniker was derived from the sound of the falls, which resembles that of the kethuk, a local Javanese musical instrument that was believed to have belonged to a genie. Perfect for nature lovers and backpackers, the Sri Gethuk Waterfall provides unparalleled views of the surrounding natural scenery, as well as great swimming opportunities through its refreshing, calming waters.
