A foodie’s paradise of olives and traditional Moroccan food.
Just off Jemaa el-Fna, the city’s main square, lies Souk Ablueh, the place to go for foodies and olive lovers. Souk Ablueh is dedicated to the humble olive. Everywhere you look, you will see mountains of exquisite Moroccan olives of all colours – green, black and purple – sitting plump and juicy in large baskets. Olives are piled high and sold not just fresh, but also marinated in a spicy paste. Souk Ablueh sells lemons as well, although these lemons are not fresh but preserved with a mix of spices for a distinctive Moroccan flavour.
Souk Ablueh is also where you can find yourself a delicious array of traditional food. Treat yourself to some Tajine, a meat dish prepared in special pots and slow-cooked over hot ashes or try some spicy and flavourful bachelor’s stew. You can also enjoy tender cuts of slow-roasted lamb.
With much to explore and sample while at Souk Ablueh, this is one souk like no other.
