Sør-Spitsbergen National Park

A safe haven for birds.

Bird enthusiasts this one’s for you. Located in the south of Spitsbergen Island, Norway, the Sør-Spitsbergen National Park is home to some fascinating species of sea birds. Opened since 1973, you will find bird sanctuaries, such as the Sørkapp, Dunøyane, Isøyane and Olsholmen Bird Sanctuaries in the park, where these creatures survive and thrive.

In fact, this park is so important to our feathered friends that BirdLife International has declared it an Important Bird Area. From Common Eider to Barnacle Geese, to even Black-Legged Kittiwakes, you can find all sorts of sea birds here. The park itself is a natural wonder, with its colder east side filled with pristine glaciers, and the warmer west side home to some lovely native plants.
