An art complex on a former tobacco factory.
Upon learning that this complex currently houses exhibition halls, art shows and conference spaces, it is hard to believe that the grounds of the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park used to be a former tobacco factory. One of Taipei’s largest art spaces, this park is home to several shops, including a bookstore, vinyl records store, as well as creative art workshops. In the centre of the old tobacco factory sits a baroque garden, where visitors can unwind and relax, enjoying the day’s breeze.
Many of the spaces have been revitalised and modernised, and visitors are invited to learn more about the history and culture of Taiwan under the Japanese occupation. A large lotus pond is also installed outside, revamped as an ecology pond. Formerly used for fire extinguishing and ventilation purposes, it is now a place where visitors can learn about local wildlife.. Culture vultures should not miss out on the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park when in Taipei.
