Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument

A famous and historic monument that has made an appearance in several movies and TV shows.

Standing sturdily at the Riverside Drive in the Upper West Side of Manhattan, New York City, the Soldiers' and Sailors' Memorial Monument was designed by the firm Stoughton & Stoughton with Paul E. M. DuBoy, in commemoration of the Union Army soldiers and sailors who served during the American Civil War. Completed in 1902, it became a state landmark in 2001. Many prominent Memorial Day celebrations have been held around this structure as well.

With a height of approximately 29m, this Beaux-Arts monument is mounted with two cannons on the south side, while on the west side, the back steps to the terraces provide scenic views of the Hudson River. Admire the beauty of the conical roof crowned by an elaborately decorated marble finial. This historic monument has also made its fair share of appearances as a backdrop to several well-known movies and TV shows such as Sex and the City.
