Soldier Field, Chicago

A stadium that is the home of the Chicago Bears of the NFL.

The second-oldest stadium in the NFL, a stadium known as as Municipal Grant Park Stadium opened its doors in 1924, with its name becoming Soldier Field the next year in memory of the US soldiers who had perished in the First World War. There are sculptures of soldiers at the stadium, including that of a sailor looking over Lake Michigan. Designed in the neoclassical style, the stadium even has grand Doric columns on its entrances. Even in its early days, the stadium used to regularly bring in crowds of over 100,000 people during the games played there, and in 1971, the Chicago Bears moved in and have been calling it home for almost 50 years since.

Once considered a National Historical Landmark, the stadium was delisted in 2004 as the entirety of the inside had been restructured and modernised, leaving only the outside structure intact. However, winning the award in design excellence by the American Institute of Architects that same year, and having been awarded the LEED certification for Green Buildings, it’s safe to say that the upgrading has worked out.

With games, concerts and events happening at the stadium over 200 days in a year, Soldier Field runs on a busy schedule and provides a lot to see for the visitors, and the stadium provides tours on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with the possibility of booking private tours for groups of 10 and more. Depending on the season and ticket availability, you could even catch an NFL game, though the 1994 FIFA World Cup and 2016 Copa América have also taken place there. Not to mention, the big names who have hosted their concerts there throughout the stadium’s history, from Johnny Cash, to Pink Floyd, Metallica to Taylor Swift!
