Officially founded in 1891, the historic Skansen Museum is the oldest open-air museum in the world and offers visitors a synopsis of miniature Sweden. Strolling through a carefully curated ensemble of 150 dwellings and other buildings from all of Sweden, visitors gain captivating tales and fascinating insight into nearly five centuries of Swedish history, with the experience made all the more authentic by characters in period dress. Relive how the Swedes once lived according to the changing seasons, customs and traditions, and celebrate various joyous festivities together with the Swedes throughout the year – from traditional Swedish folk dancing in the summer to Christmas markets and concerts at Seglora Church in the winter.


Perfect for families of all ages, the Skansen Museum is also home to the Skansen Zoo, which houses exotic Nordic animals such as brown bears, wolves, and lynxes, as well as the ever-popular Children’s Zoo, where the kids get to interact with a wide variety of animals from adorable rabbits to the shy and elusive bank vole. Tips Before You Go
Traditional Swedish celebrations such as Walpurg is Night, Midsummer and Christmas are held at the Skansen Museum.
Guided tours (in English) are available in the summer and in December.
