Shukkei-en Garden (縮景園)

Delight your senses in miniaturised versions of nature’s most wondrous landscapes in a garden.

Literally translated as ‘shrunken-scenery garden’, the endearing Shukkei-en lies in the city of Hiroshima. Designated in 1940 as a National Scenic Spot of Japan for its lovely plum trees and cherry blossoms, the garden was constructed in 1620 at the command of Asano Nagaakira, the daimyo of the Hiroshima. Inspired by the beauty of Xi Hu (West Lake) in Hangzhou, China, in which the Shukkei-en is modelled after, it possesses the traditional aesthetics of Japanese gardens as well. Soak in the quiet charm of this garden by taking a leisurely walk along a winding path, which will lead you through the enchanting valleys, mountains and forests in an ingeniously miniaturised form. Relax with a cup of matcha at the teahouse and feel the zen-like vibes emanating from the tranquil pond in the centre.
