Shanghai People’s Heroes Monument (上海市人民英雄纪念塔)

With the rapid transformation of Shanghai into a modern city, the People’s Heroes Monument makes one reflect upon its past.

Strategically located at the north end of the Bund, where the Suzhou Creek and the Huangpu River meet, the Shanghai People's Heroes Monument is found within the grounds of the Huangpu Park. Constructed by the Shanghai municipal government in 1993 to honor the revolutionary martyrs and those who had lost their lives fighting natural disasters, the monument is 24m tall and was built in the stylized shape of three rifles leaning against each other. Take the steps to the bottom to see history carved out in the reliefs and catch a stunning view of the Shanghai skyline from across the river.
