One of the largest museums of natural sciences in China boasting an impressive collection of 240,000 samples.
Situated in the Jing'an Sculpture Park since 2015, the Shanghai Natural History Museum is a museum dedicated to natural history and is also one of the largest museums of natural sciences in China. Spanning a colossal area of 40,000 square meters, the museum has an impressive collection of 240,000 samples, which include over 62,000 pieces of animal specimens, 135,000 plant specimens, 700 Stone Age and 1,700 mineral specimens.
The highlights are the rare species of animals which cannot be found anywhere outside of China. Be awe-inspired by the Yellow River mammoth, a giant salamander, a giant panda and the Yangtze alligator. Marvel at the two mummies and several human embryos on display. Then, let your heart skip a beat or two when you see the jaw-dropping skeleton of a 140-million-year-old dinosaur, Mamenchisaurus hochuanensis from Sichuan Province, which stands at more than four storeys high!
