Enjoy a romantic stroll in a part of Shakespeare’s world.
“Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?” A less-visited part of Central Park, Shakespeare Garden pays tribute to the renowned English poet and playwright, William Shakespeare. As you stroll along the winding paths surrounded by the lovely flowers that change with the season, the literature lovers amongst you may be reminded of some of Shakespeare’s well-loved works. Rosemary and pansies dance in the breeze, an ode to Hamlet’s Ophelia, and you can even find thistle, mentioned in Much Ado About Nothing. The primrose, lark’s heel, flax are amongst the flowers that are accompanied by plaques reading quotes from the man’s works, to help you identify the plays they celebrate. Birdwatchers, keep an eye out for the lovely creatures that stop by the garden and fill it with their chirping.
Of course, this delightful garden is not just for the art lovers. It’s the perfect location for lovers to sit at the rustic wooden benches and whisper sweet nothings, surrounded by the vibrant flora. Naturally, the Garden is one of the most popular spots for weddings, with its four acres spreading across the center of the park.
