Seven Sisters Waterfall, Geiranger

True to its name, this is a unique yet stunning waterfall has seven separate streams flowing down!

Located in the UNESCO-recognised Geirangerfjord, the highly popular Seven Sisters Waterfall (De Sju Søstre) is amongst the most photographed waterfalls in the region. There is definitely no surprise why, as the seven separate streams, from which the waterfall derives its name from, flowing down the cliff-edge lend itself to a magnificent view.

Close to Knivsflå, an abandoned farm, the waterfall has an average fall of approximately 250-metres, an impressive statistic. Local folklore has it that the seven different streams were actually seven unmarried sisters who were dancing playfully on the mountain before a suitor (actually the waterfall on the opposite side of the fjord) unsuccessfully tries to woo them over.

Of course, the Seven Sisters Waterfall can be viewed by take a boat ride down the Geirangerfjord, where you can view the falls in all its glory. The best time to visit the Seven Sisters, like many other waterfalls in the country, is either during spring or summer because that’s when the water volume is at its peak.
