Seoul Central Mosque

Experience the first Islamic Mosque in Korea!

Standing amidst a peaceful area in Itaewon lies Korea’s first ever Islamic Mosque, the majestic Seoul Central Mosque. This beautiful mosque began construction in October 1974 and was opened to the public in 1976. Its construction was generously funded by the Islamic countries and the land it was built on was donated by the Korean Government!

Not only is it Korea’s first mosque, but an architectural gem as well with its white furbishing, complete with two towering stone columns on each side of the structure and detailed carvings on the panels. The interior is equally beautiful too, lined with intricate patterns on its walls and floors throughout the three floors. Visitors can also have the chance to immerse themselves in the culture by witnessing locals performing their daily prayers at the tranquil men’s and women’s prayer halls, otherwise known as Musallas on the second and third floors respectively.

Tips Before You Go
If you are taking public transport, you can use the Seoul Subway Line 6, and get off at the Itaewon Station, which is near the Mosque. As this is a place of Islamic worship, ensure that you show respect to their culture by wearing covered clothing and refraining from smoking on the premises. Also, do not take photos when inside the Mosque.
