Seljalandsfoss

There’s something unique about Seljalandsfoss that you can’t find in any other waterfall in the world.

One of the detours along Iceland’s Golden Circle is a rather one-of-a-kind waterfall. While Seljalandsfoss waterfall is 60 metres high and extremely powerful, it’s not the main reason why people throng to this place. Instead, the secret lies behind it, literally. Unlike any other waterfall in the world, there is a path behind the plummeting water where you can walk and enjoy the view from a different angle. Pretty cool, don’t you think? However, during winter, the path is closed as a precaution against falling ice chunks. This safety precaution is absolutely necessary, because there was even an incident once when heavy boulders fell from the top onto the walkway when it had rained too much. We hope this does not hamper your desire to view the waterfall up-close though because it’s one of those places that you really should visit. After all, where else in the world can you walk behind a waterfall?

Tips Before You Go
The walkway behind the waterfall is always wet from drizzle. Therefore, it is best to wear non-slip shoes. You should also consider bringing a poncho or an umbrella to prevent yourself from getting wet. Unfortunately, you won’t be allowed to walk behind the waterfall during the winter, so if you wish to try this once in a lifetime experience, make sure you visit during another season instead!
