Selfoss Waterfall

Mighty, powerful and gigantic, Selfoss is one of Iceland’s must-visit waterfalls.

Together with Dettifoss and Hafragilsfoss, Selfoss makes up a series of waterfalls that you should not miss out on during your trip to Iceland. Situated in Jökulsárgljúfur canyon which itself is part of Western Europe’s largest national park known as Vatnajökull National Park, it is only a kilometre away from Dettifoss. Even though Dettifoss is considered to be the most powerful waterfall in the European continent, Selfoss is no less charming, especially when you consider the fact that its width and scenery can captivate any onlooker’s heart. It is easily accessible via the Ring Road as well, making it a rather convenient landmark to visit. Parking is also available nearby, so what are you waiting for really? This underappreciated waterfall is something that everybody who visits Iceland should see during the course of their trip.

Tips Before You Go
Most people who visit this place go straight to Dettifoss and tend to skip this one, but you really shouldn’t. Set aside some time to make a detour at Selfoss before or after visiting Dettifoss. Trust us, you’ll not regret it. The best part is that since Selfoss is often overlooked, that means that very few people will be here sightseeing. This gives you the best opportunities to take as many beautiful photos as you like.
