Şehzade Mosque

A lovely mosque with an interesting history.

Located in the district of Fatih, the beautiful Şehzade Mosque lies on the third hill of Istanbul. Also known as Şehzade Camii in Turkish, this mosque was built as a memorial to Suleiman the Magnificent's son, Şehzade Mehmed who died of smallpox in 1543. With a wonderful garden, this was the first important mosque to be designed by Mimar Sinan. Be inspired by the two minarets with twin balconies and a fascinating façade with embellishments. Step inside to see the majestic central dome which is supported by four semi-domes. Admire the elegant arches in alternating pink and white marble in the courtyard bordered by a portico with five domed bays.
