Saxon Switzerland National Park prides itself as the only rock national park in Germany. Located just a stone’s throw away from the Saxon capital Dresden, the national park features all kinds of interesting rock formations, ranging from chalky sandstone cliffs, to deeply carved valleys, to table mountains and gorges. The park covers two areas of 93.5 square kilometres and is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful and fascinating landscapes in Europe. The national park offers an endless variety of recreational activities for everyone. Rock climbers will be spoilt for choice from more than 700 summits available. In addition to rock climbing, there is a vast network of marked hiking trails, paths and cycling routes available! A definite highlight is the Bastei Bridge, a 76.5-metre man-made bridge that connects the Bastei rock formations. From the bridge, visitors will enjoy a stunning panoramic view of the mountains.
