Sant’Ivo alla Sapienza

A church so fine that a similar exterior was replicated in Vor Frelsers Kirke in Copenhagen, Denmark.

A Roman Catholic Church built in Rome between 1642-1660, the church of Sant'Ivo alla Sapienza is an architectural jewel hidden in a courtyard near the Piazza Navona. It is a true masterpiece of Roman Baroque architecture by Francesco Borromini, who ingeniously designed the church to fit into the limited space of the courtyard of Palazzo della Sapienza, an old university. Step inside the church to marvel at the columns of stars leading up to an angel's face with wings sculpted on the walls. Gaze at the exquisite altarpiece, by Pietro da Cortona, portraying St. Yves and relish in the beauty of the spiraling corkscrew lantern of the church surmounted by a cross.
