Sant’Andrea della Valle

Famed for being a major setting for the Puccini opera Tosca, come and see the reasons why this church was selected.

A minor basilica in the city of Rome, the Sant'Andrea della Valle is the general seat of the religious order of the Theatines. Known for its exquisite Baroque art and architecture, the breathtaking nave ceiling fresco and dome of Sant'Andrea della Valle must not be missed. One of the largest commissions of its day, the fascinating dome decorations were painted by the two Carracci pupils, Giovanni Lanfranco and Domenichino. After the Basilica of St Peter and the Pantheon, this dome is the third largest in Rome. With many artworks to admire here, one of the highlights includes the white marble relief depicting Angel Urges Sacred Family to Flee to Egypt (1675), sculpted by Antonio Raggi.
