Sant’Anastasia

A church of the Dominican Order in Verona, Italy.

Sant’Anastasia is a church of the Dominican Order situated in Verona, Italy. It is located specifically in the most ancient part of Veronca near Ponte Pietra. Construction on the current church began all the way back in 1280 and it was only completed in 1400. It was conceptualised by Fra’ Benvenuto da Imola and Fra’ Nicola da Imola. Its name was derived from an existing temple built by King Theoderic the Great upon which was built the actual church. The church features a 72m high belltower with nine bells ringing in Veronese bellringing art. The interior of the church is divided into a nave and two aisles with crossed vaults that are subdivided by six columns each. The columns are in white or red Verona marble with Gothic capitals. To the left of the church entrance, Guglielmo di Castelbarco, the pedestal of Verona, constructed an arch which then became his tomb.
