Santa Maria Zobenigo (Chiesa di Santa Maria del Giglio)
A compendium of Venetian Art.
This ancient church was founded in the ninth century by the Jubanico family and retains much of its original form owing to reconstructions done in the latter half of the 17th century. The exterior of the church is considered unusual due to its secular adornments, but remains one of Venice's most ornate Baroque-style facades. The interior houses many fine paintings by some renowned Venetian painters such as Gianbattista Crosato, Gaspare Diziani, and Francesco Zugno, including J. Tintoretto’s “Four Evangelists” which hangs behind the altar.
