The world’s most beautiful race track.
Stunningly juxtaposed against the imposing, snow-capped San Gabriel mountains that stretch as far as the eye can see, the lush fields of the Santa Anita Race Park take on a deep, rich dark green colour, setting the scene for the world’s most picturesque Throughbred race track. Offering some of the most prestigious racing events in the United States during the winter and in spring, including the Santa Anita Derby, the Santa Anita Handicap, and the Breeder’s Cup, the race park attracts crowds by the thousands every year.
Originally part of a small ranch owned by the former San Gabriel Mission Mayor, the race park expanded rapidly under the leadership of visionary entrepreneur Doc Strub, and set the standard for many innovative mechanisms still used in throughbred horse racing today, such as the use of starting gates and photo finishes for every race. This massive historic landmark is a must for racing fans and is equine heaven in the sunshine, comprising a beautifully preserved grandstand façade inspired by the 1930s, a track infield area that can accommodate more than 50,000 guests, and well-equipped barns and facilities for the gorgeous equine creatures themselves.
