San Miguel Island

Where you can forget about the rest of the world.

There are many reasons why Santa Barbara County, California, has a reputation for being a great vacation spot and one of those reasons is San Miguel Island, a garden located right at the heart of the Atlantic in the Azores. Perhaps the most recognised lake on postcards of Azores, the Lagoa das Sete Cidades is a lake that has a beautiful story behind it. It was said that once upon a time, a shepherd and a Princes fell deeply in love with each other but were not allowed to meet each other due to their vastly different status. Upon meeting for the last time, they both shed so much tears that they cried up the lake, giving it its blue colour from the blue eyes for the shepherd and the green lake originating from the green-eyed princess. Romance and tragedy aside, there are also the Miradouro da Boca do Inferno, Sete Cidades, Ferraria and many more other locations to visit upon setting foot on this gorgeous island.

The island is popularly used for camping or day trips, making it the ideal place for some quality time with loved ones away from the hustle and bustle of the city. As there are no supplies or accommodation available on the island, planning beforehand is essential to ensure that you have all you need for your trip. Remember to pack all the necessities such as food and water, as there are definitely no eateries here either. Disconnect completely from the rest of the world and recharge with those who matter at the San Miguel Island.
