San Francisco Museum of Modern Art

Unconventional masterpieces available for appreciation.

Modern Art lovers, this one’s for you. Established in 1935, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) was the first museum of its kind on the West Coast to embrace the true modernity of 20th century art in its various forms, not limiting it to the traditional still works like paintings and sculptures. Film and photography are also considered works of art in this non-profit museum, with the entire collection of artwork exceeding a staggering 30,000 all displayed over 170,000 square feet of space. With the three-year-long expansion project, this has become both the largest in the United States and the world to house modern and contemporary art. While there are some temporary exhibitions, there are a few fascinating ongoing ones, such as “Approaching American Abstraction”, displaying the pieces from Abstract artists like Lee Krasner. Keep your mind open and be prepared to bask in the creativity in this museum that truly displays art of the present and prepares us for the future.
