Santiago, Chile
San Cristóbal Hill

Enjoy stunning views of Santiago and embrace nature all at once.

If you’re in Santiago, then Cerro San Cristóbal (“cerro” being “hill”) is probably on the top of your list, and for good reason. Maybe you’re feeling iffy because it’s so popular, but there’s nothing quite like this if you want a different view of the city. With over 700 hectares of verdant green overlooking Santiago from 300 meters above, the hill is the second highest point in the city. When you reach the top, the most striking sight is that of the statue of the Virgin Mary (dedicated to the Immaculate Conception), watching over the city since 1908! A sheer white against the pale blue of the sky, her status as an important symbol of Santiago is definitely apparent.

Of course, that is not all to admire while here. Your journey to the top will be paved with delights like the Chilean National Zoo, along with a garden inspired by the Japanese. Enjoy a calming walk far from the crowd in the Santiago Metropolitan Park, which is a part of the hill, and those of you eager to exercise can challenge yourself to a walk to the summit. Enjoy a refreshing mote con huesillo or grab a bicycle and speed to the summit. As the sun sets and stars blanket the sky, the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary is brilliantly lit up from the sides, and the stunning view of the twinkling city lights from the summit is one not to be missed!
