Salzburg Zoo

Where animals truly feel at home.

Based on the menagerie of the Prince Archbishops of Salzburg (read: a collection of exotic animals), the Salzburg Zoo is a built on of this, and is arguably the oldest zoo in the world. About three centuries old now, the zoo has expanded from its cramped quarters to a wider space for the various species of animals that reside here.

Following the Hellbrunner Breg Mountain’s rock walls as natural borders, the enclosures of Baroque origin are fascinating to explore. Here, you can a wide range of animals, from the magnificent lion prowling about to the domestic lynx. Red pandas reside in the Eurasia exhibits, along with the Alpine ibex and brown bears. If you can’t bring yourself to move and feel a desire to flop everywhere you go, you might find a companion in the sloths from the Americas. Parma wallabies represent their native Australia as they hop about, shying from humans. With so many animals to see and wow at from all over the world, you won’t ever be bored on your trip here!
