The Karnak Temple Sacred Lake is the largest and most well-preserved in Egypt, a historical jewel offering insights about the Ancient Egyptians’ daily lives and religious practices. This lake was the heart of all religious activities in Karnak Temple. Its natural groundwater was used for religious bathing and purification, and was also home to Egypt’s sacred geese of Amun, the King of the Gods. The Sacred Lake is also symbolically important in Egyptian creation mythology, as it symbolises the water from which life arose.
On a quiet day, when the water is calm and still, it holds the reflections of the surrounding temple buildings, creating an idyllic image of paradisal tranquillity.
