Ryuzu Waterfall (竜頭ノ滝)

A waterfall at its best during the fall season.

That sweet spot between Nikko’s Yukawa River and Lake Chuzenji is nature’s gift to us all. Known as the Ryuzu Waterfall, its name simply translates to Dragon Head waterfall. The origin of its name stems from the unique shape of the waterfall. The aptly named waterfall resembles the head of a dragon, surrounded by trees that become red and yellow during autumn, making the waterfall come all the more alive. Due to its shadowy location, this is the place to be if you would like to immerse yourself in the glorious autumn view. Watch the stunning waterfall from the observation deck or see it even more up close by following a 300 m walking trail near the river. Don’t forget to pick up a souvenir from the souvenir shop near the observation deck and some food from the nearby food stand for those rumbling tummies – a perfect complement to an equally satisfying scenery!

Tips Before You Go
The best time to view the Ryuzu Waterfall is naturally during autumn, at the beginning of October, when the varying shades of green, red and yellow make up for the fiery appearance of the autumn trees surrounding the Ryuzu Waterfall and lining the banks of the river.
