Royal Palace of Milan

A cultural landmark and exhibition centre in Milan, Italy.

The Royal Palace of Milan used to be the seat of government in Milan for many centuries in Italy’s history. Today, it is a cultural landmark and houses several exhibitions and expositions in its three floors. The architect originally conceptualised the centre to house two courtyards, but it was partially demolished to make space for the Duomo. The palace is situated on the right of the facade of the cathedral adjacent to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. The design of the structure is adapted from the ancient courtyard, forming a recess taking reference from the Piazza del Duomo. The main floor of the building is home to the Hall of Caryatids. Since 2013, the collection of the Great Museum of the Duomo of Milan has been exhibited in the palace as well. While it may not be of particular political importance anymore, it still remains a magnificent architectural marvel.
