Royal Exhibition Building

The oldest surviving site from the International Exhibition movement definitely deserves its World Heritage Listing.

Being the world’s oldest surviving site from the International Exhibition movement, it comes as no surprise that the Royal Exhibition Building was the first Australian building to obtain the World Heritage Listing in 2004. Initially constructed for the Melbourne International Exhibition in 1880, the meticulously restored interior has allowed it to play host to many exhibitions and events till this day. Tours departing from Melbourne Museum are available regularly, and with such rich historical significance coupled with the magnificent dome modeled after the Florence Cathedral, this building is definitely worth a visit.
