Royal Botanic Garden

Experience a true nature-filled gem in Edinburgh.

Botany lovers in Edinburgh will be thrilled to discover the Royal Botanic Garden of Edinburgh or more simply, the ‘Botanics”. An area that has been filled with lovely plants since 1670, it is one scientific centre dedicated to the study of plant ranging from medicinal herbs to your regular botanical plants. With an impressive collection of over 13,302 plant species and nearly 273,000 plants, it is surprising that this amounts to only 4% of all the plant species that have been discovered thus far.

You absolutely cannot miss out on the Rock Garden, home to more than 5000 alpine plants, an herbaceous border and a Beech hedge that is over a 100-years-old. Step into any one of the glasshouses and see your favorite plant species from different climates in all their glory. The Botanic Garden is not all about plants though – you can not only see some birds here, but you are allowed to feed them with cracked corn and grated cheese. Be sure to stop by the John Hope Gateway, the information centre that gives you a greater understanding of the beautiful Royal Botanic Garden.

Get ready to inundate your sight with the exquisite flowers on site!
