History and opulence in a single building.
The Royal Albert Hall, even from afar, is iconic. Its distinct Italianate architecture, which was widely popular in Britain during the 19th century, is stunning. The massive dome catches your attention immediately, and rightfully so because the concert hall was world's first domed amphitheater. Its glass and iron structure is distinct and beautiful in its intricacy, and it was actually used as a navigation point by pilots during the First and Second World Wars.
While the mosaic frieze, which encircles the building, might keep you staring for a good while, don’t get lost in the magnificent architecture before even stopping foot in it. The interior is just as stunning, if not more. The concert hall has held the Proms concerts annually since 1941, and was inaugurated by Queen Victoria. Renowned artists have since appeared on stage here, and is the venue for all kinds of concerts, from rock concerts to ballets and operas. There’s even been sports events and award ceremonies. Named in honor of Prince Albert, the hall features acoustic diffusing disks that light up in soft purple and blue. You James Bond fanatics might know that three of the movies had royal world premières here. With so many amazing things to do and see here, what are you waiting for?
