Romsdalen Valley

Breath-taking views worthy of a breath-taking climb.

Majestic, staggeringly high mountains stand imposingly on both sides of the narrow, 60-kilometre long Romsdalen Valley, making it one of the most monumental and wildly beautiful valleys of Norway. Along the valley floor, the crystal-clear river Rauma cuts through the 30 to 40-metre deep gorge, forming the stunning Slettafossen waterfall. With amazing views to all directions, the Romsdalen valley boasts unparalleled, breath-taking views of the best that nature has to offer.

The valley is home to the tallest vertical, overhanging rock face in Europe – the Trollveggen. At 1,000-metres in height, the Trollveggen is perfect for hiking enthusiasts and professional climbers looking to challenge their limits. Base jumping has been banned in the Romsdal mountains since the 1980s, but the Trollveggen remains hugely popular with locals and tourists due to the spectacular views from its peak. From the peak, visitors are gifted with a marvellous view of the valley and the grand Romsdalshorn peak, which towers at a height of 1,555 metres.
