Richard Wagner Museum

“Where words fail, music speaks” – Hans Christian Anderson.

As the former residence of the renowned German composer Richard Wagner and his family, the Richard Wagner Museum now serves as a cultural heritage site devoted to the preservation of Wagner’s musical legacy and includes several documentations of life in the manor, such as photographs, paintings, and a valuable collection of letters and musical scores. The country manor, situated against the beautiful backdrop of Lake Lucerne, offers visitors a glimpse into the life of the famous composer from 1866-1872, during which he accomplished many of his musical masterpieces.

Undoubtedly, the most fascinating display in the museum is the Erard grand piano, on which Wagner completed several of his critically acclaimed pieces, including The Mastersingers of Nuremberg. Music lovers and history buffs will enjoy perusing the memorabilia of classical music on display, as well as learn about the history behind the Wagner family’s complicated life at this lovely, informative museum.
