Widely regarded as the ‘true heart of Venice’, the Ponte di Rialto (Rialto Bridge) is a Venetian gem indeed.
A landmark bridge which is also one of the top tourist attractions in Venice, the Ponte di Rialto was designed by Antonio da Ponte and completed in 1591. With a 24-foot arch to allow for the passage of galleys, it was constructed with an impressive 12,000 wooden pilings that still continue to support the bridge more than 400 years after it was built. As one of the four bridges spanning the Grand Canal in Venice, the Ponte di Rialto is the oldest and it divides the districts of San Marco and San Polo.
Savour its beauty from a gondola or take a romantic stroll on this ever-crowded bridge. Delight in the two rows of small shops that sell jewelry, linens, Murano glass and other fascinating souvenirs here as well. Just being able to walk through it would be an experience in itself, as you would be one of the thousands of people who have set foot here throughout history.
