Rhine Falls

Experience the full power of our planet as you stand by the largest waterfall in Switzerland.

With the roar of the falls in your ears and the thundering impact of the water hitting the rocks filling your entire body, feel empowered by the might of this natural wonder. Over 15,000 years ago, as the Rhine River flowed over the precise point where hard chalk crumbled away into soft gravel, the falls was borne as water poured over the edge at break-neck speeds of 23 metres per second. Despite being bombarded by tons of rushing river water every second of every day, the mighty rock in the middle of the river has refused to be shaken, bravely withstanding the forces of nature with incredible fortitude. Now this rock acts as a platform which one can access, and feel the full impact of the falls up close from platforms that extend over the edge. When the sun sets, the rock is illuminated with magical lights, and sometimes fireworks cast their dazzling glow over the falls in a spectacle you’ll not soon forget.

A traditional castle, Schloss Laufen, stands near the falls, housing and highlighting the historical importance of the Rhine falls and how it is impacted the landscape and society of the area. The “Rein art” gallery is a pun on the river Rhine meaning “Pure Art”, and indeed the showpieces on display are nothing short of genuine, unadulterated, beautiful art.

To get your heart racing and feel the rush of the falls on a whole new level, simply book a guided boat tour that will allow you to navigate the very basin of the falls, or for those daredevils seeking an adrenaline boost, rent your own canoe and take your chances. Adventurers of all ages will be wooed by the playground cum obstacle course set up near the falls. Here, you can traverse the treetops, and leap from a 13 metre high platform only to float down to safety, with only the ingenious technology of a powerful fan standing between you and the hard ground. The Panorama Express is perfectly encapsulated by its name, a 460 metre long cable car ride that takes you above the falls with unparallelled 360 degree views. There is nothing like the vigour and intensity of nature that man can recreate, so come down to the falls for an experience that will ingrain in you an appreciation of Mother Earth’s might.
