Germany’s very own symbol of democracy.
For an understanding of German political history, the Reichstag Building (Reichstagsgebäude) is the place to go. Located in the capital city of Berlin, this building is home to the German Parliament. The original building was completed in 1894 but was damaged by a fire in 1933. It was further damaged in the aftermath of the decline of Hitler’s reign, and after years of uncertainty, finally became home to Germany’s parliament again in the 1990s.
Historical prestige aside, the Reichstag also showcases the Dome, the brainchild of renowned British architect, Norman Foster. A masterful amalgamation with a historic stone structure, the glass is certainly a tasteful addition and has injected modernity into this building. Come and visit the roof terrace of the building for a lovely view of the city and feel the presence of history in the making below your feet!
