An iconic attraction for fans of Sherlock Holmes.
Mention the Reichenbach Falls and diehard fans of Sherlock Holmes will perk up in excitement, because the scenic attraction holds great fictional significance as the site of Moriarty (Sherlock’s greatest foe) and Sherlock’s final physical altercation in “The Final Problem”, which ultimately culminated in the demise of the world’s greatest sleuth – Sherlock Holmes.
As one of the largest waterfalls in the Alps at an impressive height of 120-metres, the Reichenbach Falls features a powerful cascade of water that roars down the side of the mountain overlooking Meiringen. A red wooden funicular takes visitors up to the viewing platform, where visitors will be enthralled by stunning views of the vast Haslital valley as well as the magnificence of the powerful Reichenbach Falls. Sherlock fans will want to continue climbing up the flights of stairs to access the infamous ledge on which Moriarty and Sherlock fought to the death (denoted by a white star engraved in the cliff face), to pay homage to one of the greatest figures in popular culture and literature. The ledge can be accessed from the viewing platform by following the trail that brings visitors to the top of the falls, before leading them back down on the opposite side of the falls to the iconic location, or be accessed directly by hiking up from Meiringen to the Reichenbach Falls.
