Rector’s Palace

One of the most stylish castles in Dubrovnik.

Elegantly combining the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles, the Rector's Palace is one of the most beautiful palaces in Dubrovnik. It served as the seat of the Rector of the Republic of Ragusa (hence the name) between the 14th and 18th centuries, the seat of the Minor Council and state administration, and also contained an armory, a powder magazine, a watch house and a prison. A monument to Miho Pracat, a rich shipowner, was established on the premises in 1638, as a tribute for entrusting his entire wealth to the city. Since then, the Museum of Dubrovnik’s History Department has overseen the facilitation and maintenance of this elegant palace. The Rector’s Palace is an interesting part of Croatia’s history, worth a visit for those keen on immersing in the culture and heritage of the beautiful city of Dubrovnik.
