Nothing short of magical!
Resembling a scene out of a fairytale, the Rainbow Falls in California will make the child in you squeal with delight. The Rainbow Falls came to be as a result of the San Joaquin River rapidly outpouring 31 m below, creating the magical scene before your eyes of a full spectrum of colours in the mist.
Located within the Devil’s Postpile, this waterfall used to be part of the Yosemite National Park but fate would have it that mining desires would triumph above all and overrule the protection Devil’s Postpile came under. It was only in 1910 when a certain Walter L. Huber, then an engineer with the United States Forest Service, received a request to have the postpile blasted did interest in preserving and protecting this natural formation culminate into it eventually becoming a national monument in 1911.
Today, Rainbow falls is still a beauty as it has been known for since 1911. Easily accessible, it is only 1.5 miles away from the Red Meadow area. Grab your cameras and pack your picnic for a day of food and fun amidst the rejuvenating roars and refreshing mists of Rainbow Falls.
