Punalu’u Black Sand Beach

Black sand? On a beach? That seems rather peculiar, yet it is exactly what draws people here.

Located in Hawaii, Punalu’u Black Sand Beach is an interesting tourist destination. A beach filled with black sand, it is famous for this very phenomenon. Created by basalt and lava flowing into the ocean, this unique occurrence has caused an interesting spectacle that many now flood to see!

Aside from the fascinating black sand beach, there is yet another spectacle many flood to see. Endangered hawksbill and green turtles are often seen basking on the shores, an unforgettable sight of these adorable creatures! Whilst these animals bask in the sun, you can do so yourself too, right under the shade of large palm trees, protecting you from the unforgiving sun. Should you decide to go for a swim, do beware of strong currents that can sweep you away. Aside from these relaxing activities, do engage in some snorkelling if you wish. The pristine waters are perfect for that, as you clearly see all the fascinating creatures of the deep blue. As you wrap up your day here, you can retire back to your hotel or consider getting a permit to camp here through the night. Under the star-lit sky, with the sound of the waves lapping up the shores, this will be an unforgettable night.
