Prince’s Island Park

A great place for exercise, education, or relaxation.

Prince’s Island Park is the ideal place to sit back and relax, an escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Established in the 1950s, the park is named after Peter Anthony Prince, founder of the Eau Claire Lumber Mill. This 20 hectare-park has been a go-to spot for the people of Calgary for their recreational needs. Nature lovers will enjoy exploring the vibrant flower gardens, and for a little more exercise, hiking along the trails. If you have your roller blades or skateboard at hand, explore the trails and enjoy the exertion at the same time. Rent a canoe to drift across the glinting waters of the Bow River.

You can also learn about wetlands, wildlife, and the environment of the area at the Chevron Texaco Learning Pathway, located in the east side of the park. Let the tiny tots loose at the playground and enjoy a family picnic in the peaceful outdoors. If that is too tedious, you can always fill those hungry tummies at the restaurant in the park. When in Calgary, immerse yourself in the tranquility of Prince’s Island Park.

Tips Before You Go
The restaurant in the park is closed in January. Outdoor skating on the lagoon is available, but weather dependent. As a rough gauge, they are usually open from mid-December to February. If you visit in late July, catch the Calgary Folk Music Festival held at the park, or Shakespeare by the Bow, which runs all through summer.
