Power Station of Art (上海当代艺术博物馆)

The former Nanshi Electric Plant that lit the first light in Shanghai in 1897 has now been transformed into the Power Station of Art.

A contemporary art museum in Shanghai, the Power Station of Art was established in 2012. Located on the left bank of the Huangpu River, it was once the site of Expo 2010. Since then, it has graced prominent art shows from prestigious galleries such as Portrait of the Times from the Paris-based Centre Pompidou, the 2012 and 2014 Shanghai Biennale and a colossal retrospective of Andy Warhol's work. Occupying an extensive area of 42,000 square meters, China's first state-run contemporary art museum has also become an integral part of Shanghai's skyline with its 165m-tall chimney. Be on the lookout for the latest exhibitions held in this unique venue, with an internal height of 27m.
